Redmen open tournament season with a banner
2018-09-17

The Copper Cliff Major Atom "AA" Redmen hope to have set the tone for the 2018-2019 season.

Competing in their first "official" event of the new campaign, the locals returned north with the championship banner they claimed at the Mary Parkinson Memorial "AA" Tournament in Richmond Hill earlier this month.

The team finished first in Pool "A" with a record of 3-0-1, stopping the West Mall Lightning 5-3, bouncing the TNT Tornadoes 6-1, playing to a 5-5 tie with the Duffield Devils, and closing off round robin action with a 7-0 victory over the Greater Toronto Capitals.

There were a few tense moments in the semi-final encounter as Mason Walker netted his second goal of the game, in overtime, leading the Redmen past the Pickering Panthers 4-3. Liam Judd and Kohyn Eshkawkogan rounded out the scoring for the winners.

The Copper Cliff crew appeared to breathe a collective sigh of relief, at this point, as the gold medal affair was not all that close, the Redmen thumping Duffield 7-1 in a rematch of a tight preliminary round contest.

Liam Judd paced the attack with a two goal performance, with Jameson Fabbro, Ashton Pitawanakwat, Dawson Morris, Lincoln Lachance and Mason Walker adding one goal each.

Rounding out the team roster for the 2018-2019 Atom "AA" Redmen are Kaden Wicklander, Ryder Coe, Jeremy Thall, Khade Metatawabin, Masimo Toffoli, Jayden Ceming, Maksim Beljo, Matthew Trottier, goaltenders Dax Yurich and Desmond Whitmore, and the team staff of Ryan Yurich (head coach), Brad Walker (ass't coach), Morgan Judd (ass't coach), Jeff Wicklander (trainer), Marc Trottier (ass't trainer) and Gerry Toffoli (manager).
