A recap of the SPHL Police Cup 2015
2015-01-20

Cedar Park Playground walked away with bragging rights at the 2015 SPHL (Sudbury Playground Hockey League) Police Cup this past weekend, advancing teams to all four championship games, and securing two new banners for the clubhouse along the way.

In fact, it was an all Cedar Park affair to kick things off as the Cedar Park Wings stopped the Cedar Park Red Wings 2-0 in the novice final. Antonio Ouellette scored both goals for the winners, with Nathan Lacrrois and Johnathan McCrady picking up assists.

The Atom Wings would require overtime in making it back to back victories for the Cedar Park crew, edging the Long Lake Thunder 2-1. Brydon Levesque scored the winner in the extra session, after Carter Oakes (Cedar Park) and Michael McCullough (Long Lake) traded goals earlier in the game.

Another tight affair in the peewee finale, as Alexandre Giroux scored the only goal of the game, leading the Westmount Wolverines past the Cedar Park Wings 1-0. Braylen Abuwa registered the sole assist on the game-winning goal by Giroux.

Unfortunately, the Bantam gold medal encounter did not follow the pre-set pattern, as Long Lake rolled over Cedar Park 6-0, with Matthew Paquette and Trevor Watkins scoring two goals apiece for the Thunder.

Christian Dumont and Andrew Graham rounded out the scoring for Long Lake, as SPHL teams now continue regular season play, with the year-end finals slated for Saturday, March 8th, at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
