Canadians secure second place finish
2012-07-31

Taking full advantage of an undermanned opponent, the Sudbury Canadians easily secured a second place finish in the season-ending OWSL (Ontario Women's Soccer League) Provincial Under 21 (Central) division standings.

The Canadians trounced the North Mississauga Panthers 5-0 and 10-1 as the visitors could not field a full 11-player roster for either encounter.

On Saturday, Karolyne Blain netted a hat trick, with Tiffany Johnson adding a pair of goals, while Sarah Mulvenna showed the way on Sunday with a three-goal effort of her own.

Cloe Lacasse, Tamara Johnson and Blain chipped in with two goals each, with Tiffany Johnson rounding out the offensive on-slaught. Kristina Luce replied with the only tally for North Mississauga, who finished the season at 0-10-1, outscored 53-6 along the way.

For their part, the Sudbury ladies posted a record of 9-2-1, good for 28 points, eight back of the Markham Lightning (12-0-0) and three ahead of Ajax FC Red (8-3-1).

The end of the season means the return to the post-secondary ranks for the likes of Lacasse (Iowa Hawkeyes), Blain (Cape Breton Capers) and Serena San Cartier (Oakland University), while the younger wave of girls that includes Mulvenna, Rachel Leck and others continue to develop at the high school level.
