Things were looking pretty grim for the Nickel Centre Sting Midgets after just one period of play Thursday night at the Garson Arena.
The SMHA Grizzlies had scored on three of their first four shots and looked to be in complete control heading into the final 28 minutes of play, leading the Sting 4-0.
But gradually, the Sting clawed back, closing the gap to 5-3 by the end of the middle stanza and scoring three goals in less than two minutes early in the third, holding on for a 6-5 win in NEHL (Northeast Houseleague) hockey action.
Kurtis Stephen and Randy Durocher scored two goals apiece, propelling the come from behind victory, with Mathieu Marion and Jesse Digby rounding out the scoring.
Dillon Ominika paced the Grizzlies with a two-goal effort, with Dawson Baptiste, Colt MacLeod and Devin Blais adding singles. Earlier in the evening, the Nickel City Minor Peewee "A" Flyers scored twice in the final seven minutes, chalking up a 4-1 win over the Manitoulin Panthers.
Matt Dubois (Flyers) and Mike Megwanabe (Panthers) traded first period goals before Dubois netted the only goal of the second, giving Nickel City a 2-1 lead heading home.
Rilley Dubé provided a little insurance for the Flyers, with Dubois completing his hat-trick in the final minute of play. With the win, the Flyers increased their lead over Manitoulin to three points atop the Nickel District Peewee Division III standings.
