Goals from Emilie Martin and Mathieu Nicksy in the final five minutes powered Valley East Dental Hygiene Clinic to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Capreol Hawks in the Bantam final, as the annual Nickel Centre Minor Hockey Houseleague Tournament wrapped up Sunday afternoon in Garson.

The Hawks held the lead late, thanks to goals from Kyle Grant and Matthew Perreault, while Tyler Thompson countered for the Valley crew. The Peewee final also came down to the final few minutes as Cole Honeysett netted the game-winning goal with 3:12 remaining, lifting Elliot Lake Canadian Tire past the Massey Predators 2-1.

Taylor Spooner (Elliot Lake) and Austin Southwind (Massey) had traded goals earlier in the game, setting the stage for the third period drama. An all Nickel Centre matchup in the Tyke Gold medal encounter, as Hayden Radey recorded a hat trick, leading the Nickel Centre Jets to a 6-3 win over the Nickel Centre Rocks.

Mathew Vehkala, Joel Picard and Nikolas Liinamaa also scored for the winners, while Brayden Bourque, Braeden Morin and Madeleine Theriault replied in a losing cause for the Rocks.

Sault Ste Marie Cofra Furniture made the three hour trek East all the more worthwhile, returning to the Lock City with the Novice championship, bouncing the SMHA Warriors 6-1 in the final.

Tristan Brown was a one-man wrecking crew for the Soo, draining five goals for the winners, with Danion Dubas adding the other, while Savannah Crossthwaite picked up the only tally for the Warriors.

The Atom Division hardware will be heading towards North Bay as the East Nipissing Callander Animal Hospital Vipers knocked off the Rayside-Balfour Tigers 4-1. Dylan Simon sparked the Vipers attack with a three-goal effort, with Cooper Lounds rounding out the scoring, while Jordan Gaudette replied for the Tigers.

After spotting the Nickel Centre Sting a 3-0 first period lead in playing to a 3-3 draw on Saturday, the Valley East King Sportswear squad left nothing to chance in the final, building leads of 3-2 after one and 6-2 after two in claiming the Minor Midget trophy with a 7-2 win.

Brady Jones and Kyle Hartman scored two goals apiece to show the way for the Valley boys, with Cody Frising, Jeremi Foisy and Kyle Hughson chipping in with one goal apiece for the championship winning team. Tyler Scagnetti and Robbie Skiffington countered with one goal each for the home town favourites.

In the final game of the weekend, the Copper Cliff Eagles easily walked away with the Midget banner, blanking Valley East Brankor Trophies 7-0 to close out the festivities on Sunday evening.
