Already encouraged by the steady progression being shown by the team in recent weeks, the Sudbury Canadians U-13 ladies had another reason to smile on Monday. An administrative miscue on the part of the visiting Pickering Strikers has cost the team a valuable three points, with Sudbury receiving a forfeited victory, despite falling to the Strikers by a score of 5-0 on Sunday.
The contest was delayed some 40 minutes as it appears that Pickering team management neglected to bring along their players' books, an absolute necessity within the world of competitive soccer. While the game ultimately went ahead as planned, the Central Girls Soccer League officials confirmed late Monday that the Canadians would be awarded a 1-0 victory over Pickering.
Apparently, the rules are quite black and white - teams must be able to produce the players' books of their players for inspection by the opposing team by half-time of the game in question. Failing to do so results in a forfeiture, with the league staying true to their rules. Although this is surely not the way the team envisioned their first CGSL win, one can hardly expect coach Ted Leck and company to decline the bonus points.
