Make it three for three for the Panhellenic Lightning U14 Girls this summer. Playing in their third out of town tournament of the summer, the Lightning advanced to the tournament final for the third time taking part in the Pembroke Kings Sports Soccer Tournament over the weekend.

The young ladies returned with Silver after holding opponents scoreless through round robin play and forced a shootout in the championship final, eventually falling 1-0 to . Cold and windy conditions did little to deter the Sudbury side, opening tournament action with a very physical contest versus an aggressive Quinte West Wolverines squad.

Panhellenic Lightning emerged from the hard fought contest with a 2-0 victory as Alex Eaton and Tiye Traore found the back of the net. Next up for the Lightning were the Almonte Airplanes. Michelle Jacques, making a rare appearance as a striker, out-waited the keeper as she broke clear of the defence and, shooting from the left of the net, neatly tucked a low shot into the right corner. That was all that was needed in the 1-0 win.

On Sunday morning, Kaitlyn Matson continued shutting out the opposition as she was flawless once again in a 1-0 win over the North Bay Lightning. The final match saw Matson and Eili Kleppe share the netminding duties, as the teams ended regulation play tied at 0-0.

Kleppe, who completed the contest and remained in net for the shoot-out, was chosen as the championship game team MVP. The game came down to the last kick of the shoot-out with the Wolverines' keeper making a spectacular save, sealing the win and the championship.

The Panhellenic Lightning coaching staff of Joe & Carol Persi, ably assisted by Ray Jacques, Bruce Eaton and Ulf Kleppe, helped lead the team to a gold, two silvers and a bronze in the four tournaments they entered this season.
