Valley East Mid-Season Houseleague Tournament

An even one hundred teams took to the fields in Valley East this weekend as the VESC hosted their annual mid-season houseleague tournament. A number of exciting finals highlighted action on Sunday afternoon, with a small handful heading to overtime to decide matters. Following is a recap of the championship games.

The U-6 Girls closed off the tournament with a 3:45 p.m. final as Tim Horton's Honey Glazed clipped Tim Horton's Cruellers 2-1 behind a two-goal effort from Natalie Carriere. Christine Cousineau replied with the only goal for the Cruellers.

The boys U-6 final duplicated the young ladies as Parker Bertrand found the back of the net on two occasions to lift Tim Horton's Red to a 2-1 win over Tim Horton's Orange. Rilley Dube replied in a losing cause with the only goal for Team Orange.

Taylor McGaughey and Morgan Melnik provided all the offense the Ecowater U-8 girls would need in posting a 2-0 whitewash of Consbec in their divisional final while the Consbec boys gained some revenge with a 3-1 win over the Valley East Lions in the U-8 boys gold medal encounter.

Daniel Walker netted a pair of goals in pacing the Consbec attack with Mackenzie MacMillan rounding out the scoring for the victors while Jonathan Hampton replied in a losing cause. The U-10 girls final went to overtime as Dana Isaia converted on a penalty kick to give Dr Candusso a 2-1 win over Consbec. Josee Emond and Alandria Czerkas had traded goals earlier in the contest.

Vision Printers displayed a balanced scoring punch as Glen Winegarden, Jordan Michaud and Ryan Brideau all hit the scoresheet in a 3-0 win over Bitter Bill's in the U-10 boys final. The U-12 girls championship encounter was also decided by a score of 3-0 with Carly verch, Natalie Arbour and Kayla Forget firing goals as Lou's Shoe Repair dumped Caisse Populaire.

Kyle Hartman enjoyed a two-goal outing in the boys U-12 final, leading Jomik Interlock to a 4-1 decision over the RV Doctor. Shaun Ferron and Bradley Deschesnes-Deault joined Hartman in the goal-scoring category for Jomik as Ryan Arest broke the shutout for RV Doctor.

No division proved to be closer than the U-14 categories as both the boys and girls finals were decided by identical scores of 1-0. Cindy Seresse took a lovely centering pass from Sarah Marshall and converted with just under five minutes remaining to give JB Jewellers the divisional crown over Harrigan Builders. Meanwhile, Patrick Desmarais made no mistake on a penalty kick in overtime, as Desjardins Food Basics stopped Elmview Playground 1-0 in the boys finale.

Yet another 1-0 overtime win in the making as Karissa Henry took on the role of goal-scoring hero, drilling the game-winner in extra time as National Car & Truck Rental squeaked past Eva Lanctot in the U-18 girls tournament ending battle. The Valley East Renegades displayed a tenacious defensive effort in the second half, making a first half marker by Dan Thibert stand up in a 1-0 win over Desjardins Food Basics in the boys U-18 final.

And New Hanmer Car Wash stood atop the 8-team young adult division when all was said and done, trimming JB Jewellers 2-1. Andrew McLeod and Jacob Kaven scored for the victors while Scott Hebert answered in a losing cause for J.B.

Valley East U-10 Girls - Competitive team

Advancing to the bronze medal match at a recent tournament in Collingwood, the Valley East U-10 Girls team forced an overtime shootout before falling to Barrie 3-2. The team opened preliminary play a little tentatively, playing to a 1-1 draw with both Barrie and the Barrie all-stars.

Game three saw the Valley crew open the offensive floodgates as Brandy Charsley registered the hat-trick in an 8-1 win over Collingwood. Sydney Walker added a pair with Molly Jo Miller, Melissa Rose White and Alyssa Charsley all chipping in with a goal apiece.

A two goal effort from Sydney Walker proved to be the difference in the elimination game as Valley East edged the Barrie All-Stars 2-1. It was on to the semi-finals as Caledon handed the Valley East squad their first loss of the tournament, blanking the locals 2-0.

The bronze medal game meant a rematch with Barrie as Amanda O'Gorman scored twice in regulation, allowing Valley East to head to overtime, tied at two. After a pair of scoreless ten-minute overtime sessions, a shootout was needed to decide matters and despite receiving penalty kick goals from Brandy Charsley and Molly Jo Miller, Valley East would fall just short.

The Valley East U-10 Girls roster includes: Alex Smuland, Amanda O'Gorman, Brandy Charsley, Brittany Renaud, Jenna Gough, Leah McKerrol, Marissa Lemega, Melissa-Rose White, Molly-Jo Miller, Sydney Walker and Alyssa Charsley.
