A local core of talent have shaped the Laurentian Voyageurs men's golf team in recent years. This fall, that core is both local and young.

Entering his third year of studies within the Sports Administration program at L.U., St Charles College graduate Logan West is the most tenured of the five Sudbury lads who formed the quartet that competed last weekend in the season opening event in Guelph.

"In my first year, I was just lucky to make it and be on the team," said West, who recently celebrated his 21st birthday. "It helped so much being around the older guys - Alex Fowke and others - and our head coach, Vince Palladino."

"I tried to be a sponge and soak up the knowledge - and now I am trying to be that (source of knowledge) for our younger golfers."

Perhaps his influence is already being felt. Despite shooting a very respectable round of 77 last week, West found himself trailing freshmen Ryan Di Salle (71) and Ryder Coe (74) as well as returnees Ethan Burton (74 - he won this event last year) and Connor Di Salle.

"Logan had a very good summer," noted first year Laurentian golf coach Riley Bridge. "He golfed on the Timberwolf Ryder Cup team and won the two-man Lively tournament with Alex Fowke."

Looked to be among their low scorers week in and week out, Logan West was named men's team captain, even as he looks to elevate his game even more. "I'm working on tightening up my game, not making as many mistakes," said the long-time hockey talent who really did not fully devote himself to golf until his later years of high-school.

"Par is always a good score," West continued. "The short game, here, is huge. Putting is what got me into the lineup my first year."

The team is back on the road this weekend, with stops in Niagara (Sawmill Golf Course) and London (West Haven Golf & Country Club), travelling to Waterloo the following weekend.

"I love Cutten Fields (Guelph)," said West, alluding to the historic course that will host OUA tournament play on September 28th. "It's one of the nicest and most challenging courses, always a good test of golf."

"And I've played well at the Ambassador Golf Club (Windsor) - and would like to continue," added West. "Our whole season is getting ready for the OUA Championships."

Rounding out the Laurentian men's roster in 2026 are Jake Harry, Evan Villeneuve, Rylan Carrick, Josh Diplock and Nolan Schiewek. Third year standout Vanessa Patterson returns to captain the women's squad this fall, joined by Collège Notre Dame siblings Hannah and Breeanna Sullivan as well as Sam Habicht, Myah Fillion and Taylor Whalen.
