Blake Clayton netted a pair of goals, including an empty-net insurance marker with less than a second to play as the Sudbury Wolves opened their pre-season schedule with a 4-2 win over the Barrie Colts Monday night in King City.

Clayton's tallies book-ended the contest as the Wolves built up a 3-0 lead, with Brayden Bennett and Genc Ula also hitting the scoresheet, before Barrie rallied with a pair of third period strikes.

Sudbury starting netminder Bjorn Bronas was flawless, stopping all 13 shots he faced before giving way to Owen Leonard at the end of period two. Sebastian Mogull and Ethan Armstrong cut the deficit to just a single goal for the Colts before Clayton sealed the deal.

Picking up assists for the Wolves were Ethan Dean (2), Mason Walker, Colton Colby and Blake Clayton as Sudbury now prepares to travel to Timmins on Wednesday to face the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

Rounding out the lineup for head coach Scott Barney and company versus the Colts were Finn Kearns, Alex Dvorak, Cole Wreggitt, Shayden Hintenberger, Ronan Quinn, Norman Greene, Kingston Harris, Brady Smith, Kash Kwajah, Patrik Ula, Parker Smith and Vladimir Provorov.
