The names and faces might change under the leadership of Sudbury U22 Rockhounds head coach Mike Miron, but the results remain the same.

For the fourth time in five years, a Mike Miron coached team has captured an OLA (Ontario Lacrosse Association) championship banner as the 2026 U22 Rockhounds racked up four straight wins in Whitby last week, closing things off with a 6-4 triumph in the final over the Cambridge Highlanders.

A solid mix of rock-solid defense and goaltending combined with a whole lot of timely scoring eased the locals through their first three games, starting with a 6-1 victory over the St Catharines Athletics.

Jacob Barney paced the Sudbury attack with a hat trick, with Alex Hachez striking for a pair of tallies and Ashton Eadie wrapping up the scoring parade.

The goal differential in game two was identical though it would take a five-goal third period outburst by the Rockhounds to put away the Windsor Warlocks 7-2. Jake Sudsbury scored twice in the first for the winners with Matteo Di Ciccio, Malik Jakubo, Xavier Esquimaux-Osawamick, Braeden Thibault and Jacob Barney all joining him on the scoresheet in period three.

Facing the third place team in Group 2 in one of what was sort of three quarter-final games in a six-team division, Sudbury spotted Six Nations an early 1-0 lead and came back with eight straight, advancing directly to the gold medal affair.

Malik Jakubo exploded to the tune of a five-goal effort, with Alex Hachez adding a pair and Cody Wahl rounding off the scoring in the lopsided affair.

As expected, the final was a much closer encounter as the Rockhounds overcame a 3-2 deficit at the end of two, with Jake Sudsbury snapping a 4-4 tie with 1:39 to play, converting on a power play as Sudbury trimmed Cambridge 6-4.

The game-winner was the second of the day for Sudsbury, an effort matched by Jacob Barney while Brenden Force and Alex Hachez jumped in with one goal apiece.

While a couple of lower division banners gave way to an "A" title for the U22 Rockhounds in 2024, coach Miron suggested that there is always a little bit of a different twist in play with each and every one of his championship outfits.

"We lost a lot of experience and physicality from our team last year, when we slowed the game down quite a bit to suit our physical play," he said. "This year, we were younger so we had to approach it a little bit differently, my staff and I."

"We were more run and gun and switched more of our practice time to conditioning, really putting them through the grind. We pushed the ball quickly in transition and got a lot of goals running the floor. A lot of the other teams just couldn't run with us."

Rounding out the Sudbury U22 Rockhounds roster this summer were Austin Stephenson, Edward Galts, Ryder McKee, Luca Di Ciccio, Samuel Kotsopolous, Tucker Johnson, Aleksander Duguay, Liam Ramalho, Kai D'Amour, Noah Larcher, Rylin Elijah and Crawford Wiebe.
