Northern Junior Golf Tour youngsters wrap up a summer of fun
2026-07-08

The nearly 200 golfers who will tee it up at the 78th Annual Idylwylde Invitational next week need not worry about a leaderboard charge from the likes of Camden Poirier or Thaddeus Quesnele or Loucas Couture - at least not yet.

Someday, however, all that might change.

The above-noted trio were among the many youths involved with the Northern Junior Golf Tour (NJGT) who recently celebrated their successes as participants gathered at the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club to recognize the Order of Merit series winners as well as championship weekend standouts.

For some, like Quesnele (U15) and Couture (U13), it was a clean sweep, piggybacking their five tournament excellence with a degree of domination in the grand finale.

With 425 points and victories at two different sites (Cedar Green & Lively), Thaddeus Quesnele managed to slip past Ben Dabous (390), the latter being accompanied by Landon Daniel and Rafael Lessard as single event U15 divisional champions.

At the two-day festivities hosted at the Idylwylde, Quesnele bolted to a six-stroke lead on day one, holding on for a two-stroke victory over Rory Bardswich to complete the sweep of his age bracket.

Loucas Couture, meanwhile, captured first place in the final four events after finishing third to Dexton Cardinal at Stone Ridge and then posted rounds of 82 and 90 at the Idylwylde, comfortably out-distancing Patrick Wing.

The boys U19 division attracted about eight or so regulars to the tour, with Ryland Carrick capturing the season opening tournament on route to a first place Order of Merit finish. Noah Thorpe won two of the three showdowns that he played in, with Carter Baron and Ryan Weiss chalking up one victory apiece.

Championship weekend offered some drama as Noah Thorpe (76) and Carter Baron (79) sat one-two after round one, the duo finishing deadlocked at 157 after the full 36-holes were completed the next day.

Cole Oulahen managed to take first place in the U17 Order of Merit - without ever finishing first in any one tournament - his total of 367.50 well ahead of both Camden Poirier and Rayden Sanche at 300.

That said, this grouping truly belonged to grade 10 standout Camden Poirier who bettered the field in all three tournaments in which he appeared and then added a 13-stroke victory over Cameron Fry in the championship battle to cap off his NJGT sojourn in style.

Divisions with fewer entries were led by Elliott Boyles (6/6 in U19 Girls) and Xavier Wing (three tournament wins + championship - with Jack Cantin taking the other) while Lia Gallo (5/5 in U17) got the better of Isabella Moretta in their head to head matchup.

Finally, Lily Martel had the U15 girls division all to herself, taking advantage of the opportunity to better her game by appearing in five of the six tour events.
