The tenure record of Laurentian Voyageurs women's soccer coach Rob Gallo is not likely to be challenged anytime soon.

Taking over what was initially a club program in 1999, Gallo guided the Lady Vees into action for the ensuing 20 years, stepping away in the fall of 2018.

He would be replaced by Brian Ashton in 2019, but with Covid-19 in the mix, the former soccer professional would hold the fort for just four years, through until 2023.

A year later, the university not only opted to make the head coaching position a full-time one, but also decided to fill it with Cambridge native Randy Ribeiro. Now, just two seasons and three total victories into his reign, the decorated graduate of St Francis Xavier University has decided to move on."

"Having the opportunity to coach Laurentian is something that I will be forever thankful for," Ribeiro stated in a Voyageur-issued media release. He went on to thank both Peter Hellstrom (Athletic Director) and Bryan Carruthers (Varsity Coordinator) for their constant support, as well as wishing the best to the young women who were under his watch.

With the start of the 2026 training camp less than two months away, Laurentian will need to move quickly, given very little warning this move was imminent.

"The call was definitely a shock to get," said Hellstrom. "However, I know that Randy feels this is the best for him and I respect his decision. We want to thank Randy for his time at Laurentian and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

"The focus now shifts to finding his successor."

Though the search begins immediately, according to the media release, Ribeiro will also remain involved until the end of July in order to ensure a reasonably smooth transition heading into the 2026 OUA campaign.
