The St Charles College Cardinals baseball team charted their course through to the OFSAA Final Four this week, riding some outstanding pitching performances to three straight wins and the number one ranking from the Eastern Qualifier.

The Cards overwhelmed the St Mary Thunder from Cobourg (11-1) as Chris St Germain tossed a complete game on the mound. Gabriel Larocque homered for St Charles with Ethan Thompson, Braiden Paul and Brett Rienguette all enjoying productive outings at the plate.

Game two was no closer as the NOSSA champs blanked the Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute Raiders from Whitby 11-0, with Colton Nowoselsky handcuffing the ACVI hitters, spinning a no-hitter and receiving more than ample offensive support. Brett Rienguette joined the home run brigade, clearing the fences in the lopsided win.

The SCC lads were nothing if not consistently workmanlike in their efforts in Toronto, blasting the Bishop Allen Academy Cardinals from Etobicoke 11-1 in game three in a battle of matched namesakes as Will Burns picked up the win, going the distance. St Charles now heads to London this coming week to face the St Martin Mustangs from Mississauga in the provincial semi-final.

Rounding out the St Charles roster are Cameron Roy, Brody Mabbott, Jayce Peters, Brady Rajotte, Alex Marshfield, Callum Hopkins, Hudson Fletcher, Landon Creasey, Owen Lamothe, Nathan Omerljaniuk, Caleb Larocque and coaches Jean-Gilles Larocque, Rob Zanatta, Darren Michelutti and Jeff Nowoselsky.

Still on the diamonds, the Espanola Spartans earned their spot at the OFSAA Girls Slo-Pitch Festival in Burlington next week, outscoring the St Joseph Scollard Hall Bears comfortably this past Monday in the NOSSA final at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.

Espanola posted a 3-1 record in round robin play at the SDSSAA showcase, beating Champlain, St Charles and Confederation but losing to Horizon. They then bounced Champlain for a second time in the semis and earned a measure of revenge in the finals, defeating the Horizon Aigles.

The 2026 Espanola roster features Arieanna Ago-Neh, Avery Bourcier, June Corbiere, Lianne Francis, Ella Heins, Marly Paradis, Abby Parker, Rylee Patreau, Delayna Rantanen, Andi Sokoloski, Ciera Sokoloski, Payton Sokoloski, Charlee Sloss and coaches Tim Greenough, Megan Potvin and Cassidy Tessier.
