The Northern Chill 15U Blue Ice girls have given themselves a springboard heading into the 2026-2027 OVA (Ontario Volleyball Association) season.
Wrapping up the competitive campaign participating at the Ontario Championships in Toronto last month, the local squad posted an overall record of 6-2, qualifying for the top tier of Division 3 play in the process.
That was largely enabled on the opening two days as the Blue Ice got rolling with wins over the Belleville Ravens Fire (16-25, 25-18, 15-11) and Humana Ignite from Toronto (26-24, 25-21), losing their one and only pool game to Ottawa Fusion Red (26-24, 21-25, 11-15).
Day two was an even more productive one for the northern girls, stringing together victories over Georgina Riptide Renegades Rage from Keswick (22-25, 25-23, 15-12), the Brant Explosion from Brantford (26-24, 25-23) and the Barrie Elites Force (25-15, 25-19).
A record of 5-1 was enough to propel them into the upper tier of Division 3, once again hitting the win column in the round of 16 playoff opener, 25-14, 25-21 over the Durham Attack Adrenaline.
The 15U Blue Ice run would come to an end in the quarter-finals, beaten 17-25, 14-25 by the T-West Sparrows from Toronto.
The 2025-2026 edition of the 15U Blue Ice featured Kylan Batchelor, Laura McNeil, Kara Kirkey, Gabrielle Fantin, Addison Peplinski, Grace Perron, Makenzie Switzer, Mylia Rivard, Oliviah Thaw, Lexi Dubreuil, CloƩ St-Amant, Dylan McGee and team staff Cassie Mackinnon (head coach), Robert Batchelor and Brian Mackinnon (assistant coaches) and Krista Perron (manager).
