Badminton quartet to represent Sudbury at OFSAA
2026-05-01

Ryan Corrigan could not have picked a better time to even the score.

Just a week or so after dropping the SDSSAA Senior Boys Badminton final to Blake Chenier of Horizon, the Lo-Ellen Park product strung together back to back set victories (21-17, 21-15) in capturing the NOSSA crown over his Valley East rival.

The good news from a local perspective is that both Corrigan and Chenier advanced to represent the north at OFSAA this week in Toronto, as did Girls Singles representatives Nyah Robinson (St Charles) and Chiana Rocca (CND), who also finished 1-2 respectively at NOSSA.

The junior division also produced a pair of Sudbury-based champions as Zitai Yin (Lockerby - boys singles) and Hana Nakano (Marymount - girls singles) earned gold.

Junior silver medal recipients including the tandems of Ben Humeniuk and Quentin Hallock from Lasalle (boys doubles) and Mila Beljo and Mattia Mullen from Lo-Ellen (girls doubles).

The novice division featured the most SDSSAA podium finishes, though none of that Sudbury contingent would actually make their way to the top step.

Local second place finishers were Maxim Coulombe (boys singles - Horizon), Avery Mathias (girls singles - Horizon), Mélica Hébert / Sophie Schoppmann (girls doubles - Rivières des Francais) and Zoey Brazier / Xavio Cootes (mixed doubles - Lockerby), with Jessie Fu (girls singles - Lo-Ellen) and Olivier Lapointe / Cyrus Hodak (Collège Notre-Dame) one placement further back.
