A starting point along the pathway to competitive volleyball, the OVA (Ontario Volleyball Association) welcomed 52 entries to Niagara Falls for the 4 X 4 Provincial Championships. The five-person Northern Chill 12U Snow Caps left with memories that will last them a good long time, earning bronze medals in Division 2 Tier 1 play, finishing the event with an impressive record of 5-1.
Held over just two days, the Snow Caps kicked off play with three wins in three games, defeating the Durham Attack Energy (17-15, 15-8, 15-10), the Georgina Riptide Rage Waves (15-10, 15-9, 15-7) and the Oakville Thunder Shock (13-15, 15-10, 15-8).
On to the playoffs on Monday as the Sudbury girls sweep aside the St Thomas Express Glacier (15-10, 15-13), but fall to the Caspian Tides from Newmarket, 8-15, 10-15. Shrugging off their lone defeat at the all-Ontario competition, the 12U Snow Caps managed to outlast the Stratford Stingers Rush, 15-11, 15-12 in their final encounter, rewarded with the bronze medals.
The Snow Caps roster features: Callie Kolari, Dalia Lavergne, Brianna Rushton, Ellie Roy and Évélyne Trudeau along with coaches Martine Roy and Chris Roy and team manager Tanya Karns.
