Third period domination is the formula for the Cubs
2026-04-07

The Greater Sudbury Cubs grabbed a stranglehold 3-0 series lead in their best of seven NOJHL semi-final clash with the Soo Eagles Monday night in Michigan and once again, it was their ability to close out games with a vengeance that made all the difference in the world.

In reeling off seven straight playoff wins to date, the Cubs have outscored their opponents 6-5 in the first period of play and 12-5 in the second, but have really put their foot down in the third, recording a phenomenal 29-6 goal differential in the final twenty of each encounter.

Game three on Monday followed the pattern as the Eagles buried the only goal of the opening frame - courtesy of Anden Marceau - before Sudbury snipers Owen King and Daks Klinkhammer bookended a counter from Nolan Nemecek in the middle stanza, leaving the teams tied at 2-2 heading to the third.

No worries for coach Darryl Moxam and company as the Cubs hit the scoresheet four times (Mason Walker, Alex Valade, Kaedyn Long, Daks Klinkhammer), with Coulson Bell answering with the final goal of the evening for the Soo.

Sudbury will look to complete their second straight sweep tonight at Pullar Stadium, thus avoiding a game five that is tentatively scheduled for Thursday April 9th at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
