Black Squall slide into fifth place in Richmond Hill
2026-03-01

The top two seedings of the TLS (14U) Girls – Bugarski Cup (Select D) tournament in Richmond Hill last weekend were spot on. Beyond that, the balance of strength in the nine team field was anyone’s guess.

The Northern Chill TLS (14U) Black Squall squad were ranked fourth as play began in the morning but were delivered a wake-up call out of the gate as the Caspian Vortex (#9 from Newmarket) swept aside the Sudbury girls, 25-17, 25-16.

Thankfully, the locals regrouped quickly, taking down the Georgian Cubs Grizzlies (#3) from Barrie, also in straight sets, 25-23, 25-18.

Looking for a berth in the final four and a shot at a medal, the Black Squall crew could not match-up with the Markham Revolution Flash (#5), suffering an 11-25, 23-25 loss and relegated to battle it out in the #5 / # 7 contest.

With a three-set battle finally on the slate for the northern crew, the Chill Volleyball Club reps outlasted the Georgian Cubs Grizzlies for a second time, with the scoresheet reading 25-15, 18-25, 15-5 when the last volley was struck.

The 2025-2026 Northern Chill Black Squall team features a roster of Faith Baillargeon, Ellie Mae Claridge, Madilyn Field, Manuela Francisconi G Peppinelli, Adèle Gervais, Jade Keir, Emmie Kolari, Breeze Osawamick, Aviana Pockele, Tomera Recollet, Isabelle Seguin, Lauren Sten, head coach Patrick Gervais, assistant coach Sheri Gazzola and team manager Melanie Seguin.
