Sudbury U18 AA Lady Wolves' head coach André Brunette figures his job is safe for another week.
Yes, that quip was delivered completely tongue-in-cheek - but a home and home sweep of your longest most bitter rivals is sure to have everyone feeling pretty good around the flagship competitive program of the SDGHA (Sudbury & District Girls Hockey Association).
Sunday afternoon at the Gerry McCrory Sports Complex, the Lady Wolves received a two-goal effort from Maia Hammell, tripling the North Bay Jr Lakers 3-1. Ella Sabourin netted the remaining Sudbury goal while Kate Bouchard earned the win between the pipes with a 19-save performance.
Things were a little closer in the rematch as the Lady Wolves edged the Jr Lakers 3-2 Monday night in North Bay, courtesy of goals from Ella Sabourin, Trinity Cheechoo and Joely Angus, with Chloe Trudeau (14 saves) standing firm in net.
At 12-5-0, the U18 AA Lady Wolves hold down second place in the nine-team Central Division, three points back of the Central York Panthers (13-2-1) but with a little breathing round now on the North York Storm (6-4-4) in third place.
As sick of they are of seeing each other, Sudbury and North Bay are back at it one more time this week, battling Thursday night at Countryside at 6:45 p.m., with the Lady Wolves hitting the road Saturday to face the Barrie Sharks at the East Bayfield Community Centre.
Coach Brunette and company still have a tournament in Quebec next month circled on the calendar before jumping into both playdown and playoff action, with the OWHA Provincial Championships set for the weekend of April 9th to the 12th.
