Hometown teams were front and centre in the Senior Division of the Arthur Gabor Classic hosted by Chippewa Secondary School last weekend.

The Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes junior boys basketball team ensured, however, that this would not be a strictly North Bay centric story, capturing their division with a very impressive five game run.

Led by senior MVP Owen Lacroix, the West Ferris Trojans beat the host Chippewa Ravens 80-70 in an all North Bay final, with West Ferris advancing thanks to a SF win over the Horizon Aigles (74-61) and Chippewa eliminating the St Benedict Bears 72-53.

With a dozen junior teams in attendance, CND opened play by finishing first in Pool G, defeating the West Ferris Juniors (67-46) and the Elliot Lake Atoms (66-30).

Reaching the 80-point plateau in three straight encounters, the Alouettes stopped the St Joseph Scollard Hall Bears in the quarter-finals (84-46), bounced the Chippewa Ravens in the semis (81-57) and outscored the West Ferris Trojans in the final (84-61).

Thomas Deredin was awarded Junior Tournament MVP recognition for CND, with CND teammate Angelo Kalonji and Chris Folino of St Benedict also named to the all-star team. Local senior all-stars included Cade Kirwan (Horizon) and Sullivan Smith (St Benedict).

Rounding out the junior championship team roster are Ethan Adou, Roland Bostrom, Carson Cook, Roman D'Aoust, Hudson Dennison, Liam Hagen, Samuel Niyonkuru, Kaleb Parent, Noah Sabourin, Eden Yedess, head coach Martin Nadeau and assistant coach Logan MacIntyre.
