With Silver Stick behind them, U16 AAA Wolves back in league play with NB
2025-12-04

Don't let a 0-3-1 record mislead you.

The truth is that in three of their four encounters at the 2025 U16 AAA Silver Stick Tournament in Whitby recently, the Sudbury Wolves overall played quite well.

The locals opened play with a 3-2 loss at the hands of Upper Canada College, a squad that won three of their four encounters in Whitby as Merik Maillet and Chase Baronette pulled the trigger for head coach Jason Young and company.

Game two was the forgettable one as the Buffalo Jr Sabres bounced the Wolves 7-1, with Leo Parini scoring four times for the winners, Gavin Springer adding a pair and Nicholas Christakos replying in a losing cause for Sudbury.

Day two opened with the northern crew picking up their only point of the event, playing to a 2-2 draw with the Ottawa Valley Titans. Felix Sapay and Nicholas Christakos scored for the Wolves, who were backstopped by a strong outing from netminder Nicholas Rocca.

Pitted against the Toronto Jr Canadiens to close out the tournament, the SMHA reps were tied 2-2 heading into period three before the JRC broke through with three unanswered goals, downing the Wolves 5-2.

Felix Sapay accounted for both Sudbury markers as Detroit Honeybaked went on to claim the championship banner, drubbing Upper Canada College 6-1 in the final.

A handful of local talent was spread out through some remaining GTA teams, including forward Dacey Dupuis who registered five points in four games with the Markham Majors.

Now back in Sudbury, the U16 AAA Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the North Bay U18 Trappers last night but could not hold on, beaten 5-3 thanks to third period tallies from Brayden Hodges and Liam Stacevic, into an empty-net.

Felix Sapay and Nicholas Christakos gave Sudbury the early edge, but a second period snipe from Jackson Mead was offset by strikes from the Trappers' trio of Liam Starcevic, Caleb Moyer and William Fournier.
