And now they move from outdoors to indoors.
The Sudbury Regional Competitive Soccer League (SRCSL) recently wrapped up its 101st season of Sudbury soccer action, hosting their year-end awards banquet late last month at the Caruso Club.
The festivities came just days after the Sudbury Stallions secured the second of the big three trophies in Men's Premier Division play, walking off with the Dagostino Cup following a 2-0 win in the final over The Boys.
Gabriel Rodrigues and Lucas Oliveira tackled the offense while team captain Adam Waram stepped to serve as keeper, the long-time defender earning the shutout.
Those same two teams split the remaining hardware as the Stallions walked off with the Anderson Cup for the fourth straight summer while The Boys earned their first ever prize in the form of the Bristol Machine Works Centennial Trophy, awarded to the league's playoff champions.
Rounding out the eight team loop in 2025 were the Sudburnia Cyclones, Croatia Adria, Afro-Heritage Juniors, Leopards of Sudbury, Toros Latinos and Toros Latinos Furia.
Goaltender Thomas Guscott was recognized as the league MVP while Boys' teammate George Nwabor took home the Most Gentlemanly Player award. Their coach, Emmanuel David, was named Coach of the Year.
Croatia Adria secured two honours - Nikola Tuttle (Rookie of the Year) and Peter Valentic (Manager of the Year) - while the top scorer this year was none other than Marcel Diro of the Stallions.
The Over 40 Division would again see a two and one split as the Afro Stars were presented with both the Gino Cacciotti Cup (regular season champions) and the Peter Severinac Trophy (playoff champions) while SC Italia emerged victorious from the in-season tournament, laying claim to the Milan Vrab Memorial Trophy.
Richard Oussou (Afro Heritage Srs) was the bracket's top goal scorer while Tony Nuziale matched that performance in the Over 50 Division.
In so doing, Nuziale helped his team (SC Italia) defend the Eddie Palladino Cup (regular season champions) while the Sudbury Athletic SC broke through, going to penalty kicks to nab the Mike Dowling Cup (playoff champions).
"The league continues to be very competitive across all three of our divisions," noted SRCSL president Tony Nuziale. "We're starting to see the influx of youth into our Premier Division and it's providing a great brand of soccer for both players and spectators alike."
The SRCSL has now shifted to the indoor game for the winter, playing out of the Lancer Dome, with all three divisions again on the go. Finally, a partnership with the Sudburnia Soccer Club also allows them to host a co-ed league as well in 2025-2026.
