Laurentian Voyageurs need to combine timely hitting and pitching
2025-09-11

The Laurentian Voyageurs baseball team showed signs of pitching and glimpses of key hits at the plate but unfortunately could not put it all together, at the same time, dropping a four-game set on the road to open their 2025 OUA fall season.

The Voyageurs were fairly competitive from start to finish in dropping double-headers to both the Queen's Gaels (14-4 and 5-1) and to the York Lions (9-8 and 11-4) last weekend, returning home to face the TMU (Toronto Metropolitan University) Bold this Saturday and the University of Toronto Blues on Sunday, with all games set for the Terry Fox Sports Complex.

Their toughest outing came right out of the gate as Queen's scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, tacking on five more in the second before Laurentian eventually settled in.

Ryan Lacasse belted a double, Dylan Rudge went 1/2 with both a run scored and an RBI while Dillon Rosset pitched one scoreless inning for Laurentian, allowing just one hit.

The pitching was at its best in game two for L.U. with starter William Arsenault (4.2 IP / 4 hits / 5 runs) and reliever Ryan Lacasse (1.1 IP - no runs) keeping things close on the mound.

The Voyageurs were held in check offensively to the tune of just three hits in the 5-1 loss, the big blow being a solo home run for Sudbury native Ryan Lacasse.

The bats looked better in game three as the top of the order tandem of shortstop Devan Madore (3/5 - 2 runs) and pitcher Clarke Preston (2/4 - 2 runs) as well as Noah Leveillé (2/4 - 2 RBIs) all started to find their groove with the lumber.

In fact, Laurentian held an 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning only to see York even it up with a four-spot, plating the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

In spite of that heartbreak, the Voyageurs battled hard to sustain their compete level in game four, punching out nine hits, including three by Clarke Preston, with Ryan Lacasse driving in a pair of runs in a losing cause.
