Cambrian Shield veteran attacker Joshua Vivero looks to be in mid-season form.
Coming off an outstanding summer of soccer with the Sudbury Cyclones, he probably should be.
Vivero netted the first two goals of the season for Cambrian last Friday at home, capping off his hat trick with the final tally of the game as the Shield welcomed the Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves to the OCAA with a 7-1 beating.
Adding an assist and earning OCAA Soccer Athlete of the Week (Male) honours, Vivero received all sorts of help from teammate Siah Stone, who drilled home two markers and added three assists in a very productive evening of work.
Rounding out the scoring for the homeside were Michael Karikari and Arvin Alcid while Cambrian keeper Zhongyuan Ren stopped six of the seven shots that he faced, earning the win in net.
Adam Toumi briefly deadlocked the contest at 1-1 in the 9th minute but beyond that, T-Wolves goalie Holden Vuksan was at the mercy of the Shield attack, surrendering all seven goals before being relieved by Joshua Howarth for the final twenty minutes of play.
The Cambrian women were not nearly as fortunate as Monica Sousa hit the mark for the game's only strike in minute sixty-nine as Lakehead Orillia blanked the Shield 1-0 to kick off their entry to the collegiate ranks in style.
A.J. Seddon stood tall for the Thunderwolves, turning aside all 11 shots that she faced while Olivia Skinkle was unlucky at the other end of the pitch, tagged with the loss in net for Cambrian.
Both Shield teams are back in action at home this weekend with game times at noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, facing the Centennial Colts to start and then closing out their season-opening homestand with the Seneca Sting the next day.
