No one wants summer to end - especially not the U15 Jr Voyageurs
2025-07-30

The Valley East U15 Jr Voyageurs can be forgiven for not wanting this magical season to end.

With victories few and far between these past few years as they ventured off for play in the YSBA (York Simcoe Baseball Association), the locals would have been thrilled to challenge the .500 mark this summer.

Instead, a 12-0 (YSBA) campaign is but one of the many highlights for a team that features a nice mix of returnees and contributing underage newcomers.

"I have never had a team that has had such chemistry and camaraderie," noted head coach Aaron Del Papa. "The players are excellent at picking each other up and being positive at almost all times."

There has been much to celebrate, ranging from a tight silver medal performance at the North Bay Sandlot Tournament (the Voyageurs lost by one run in the final while stranding runners on second and third in their last at-bat) to a 2-1 weekend at the Mississauga Majors Tournament, their only loss coming at the hands of a gold medal winning team from Niagara Falls.

'These guys are here to hit," added Del Papa, quite appreciative of their aggressiveness at the plate. "They rarely strike out and consistently put the ball in play. And while we have four regular starting pitchers, everyone has given it a whirl on the mound."

The team has their sights set on a Showcase Weekend in Sudbury (August 16th & 17th), with Timmins and North Bay in town before travelling south to Dorchester on Labour Day weekend, site of the Baseball Ontario Championships.

The 2025 roster for the Sudbury U15 Jr Voyageurs features Liam Roberts, Finn Lawson, Trista Appleby, Erik Del Papa, Dustin Best, Demitri Henri, Sedric Savignac, Cole Ginson, Cole Gauthier, Dakota Del Papa, coaches Aaron Del Papa, Tyler Gauthier, Justin Roberts, Amber Appleby and team manager Angèle Savignac.
