Both of the Sudbury Jr Spartans entries into the OSFL (Ontario Summer Football League) have enjoyed a very memorable summer - to date, with only one of the two squads moving on following first round playoff action last week in northern Ontario.

A stellar performance from stand-in running back Kade Campbell (two TDs and more than 100 yards rushing) lifted the U16 AA Jr Spartans to a 28-15 win over the Peterborough Wolverines.

With the victory, coach Dan Yoisten and company now travel to Barrie this coming weekend to face a Huronia Stallions team that handed them their only regular season loss. The visiting Stallions rallied late during an early season visit to Sudbury, eking out an 11-10 win.

The post-season rematch was made possible in part thanks to a major from Alex Campbell, a two-point conversion from Noah Arsenault and two field goals and a pair of converts from Domingo Quintana.

The Sudbury U18 AA Jr Spartans were not quite as fortunate, handed the unfortunate challenge of trying to knock off the Sault Sabercats in back to back weeks following the (bad) luck of the draw come playoff time.

After outscoring the Soo 45-37 to close out regular season play two weeks ago, the U18 local squad could not complete a home and home sweep, dropping a 29-15 decision to the Sabercats last Saturday at the James Jerome Sports Complex.

Ian MacDonald and Quin Mazzuchin recorded touchdowns for the Spartans while versatile kicker/playmaker Braedan Beggs rounded out the scoring with a pair of PATs and a rouge.
