The North Bay Bulldogs U16 girls tackle football team must have cringed each and every time the Cumberland Panthers U19 girls were putting another touchdown on the board Saturday afternoon at the James Jerome Sports Complex.
Though it would not come against the same program, the Sudbury Spartans U19 girls seemed intent on exacting a little revenge in the second half of the afternoon twin-bill for their younger clubmates who took it on the chin in the opening encounter.
To wit - a 50-0 Cumberland triumph over the U16 Spartans would give way to a 68-0 scoreboard in game two as Sudbury bounced the Bulldogs.
Maddie Veevers accounted for four of the ten majors that the U19 Spartans would put on the board, with Ella O'Shaughnessy (2), Sophie Leveillé (2), Robin Price and Lena Whalen also making their way to the end zone.
Two point conversions came courtesy of Veevers, O'Shaughnessy, Leveillé and Marquise Castonguay as Sudbury improved their record to 4-2 and have earned a home playoff game as the 13-team loop sub-divides into three separate tiers of four, with North Bay eliminated from post-season play.
The U19 Spartans will play host to the London Jr Mustangs next Saturday (July 5th) at 4:00 p.m. at James Jerome.
Meanwhile, the U16 Spartans will take to the road to face the Peel Panthers, a squad which finished tied with Cumberland with a record of 5-1.
Olivia Turpin paced the Cumberland attack, recording three touchdowns with Savanah McNeill, Maelle Parthenais, Solange Springate and Violet Haynes adding one score apiece.
Turpin also accounted for the only successful two-point conversion that Cumberland was able to put on the board.
