One of the Sudbury Jr Spartans teams received a scare while the other ran through their opponent like a hot knife through butter.
Either way, both of the OSFL (Ontario Summer Football League) programs are now sitting with records of 5-1 with a bye week ahead and a regular season finale at the home of the Sault Sabercats in early July.
with the weather certainly playing a factor, the U16 battle between Sudbury and the Peterborough Wolverines featured a singular, solitary point on the scoreboard through three quarters of play - that coming courtesy of a first quarter single from the visitors' punter, Carter Tedford.
Noah Arsenault sparked the come-from-behind win for the Jr Spartans, breaking free for a 35 yard rushing major and then hauling in a pass from Evan DeMarchi on a catch and run that covered just under thirty yards.
A two point conversion from Noah Skrobot increased the Sudbury advantage to 16-1 as place kicker Dom Quintana made good on the convert on the first TD and then sailed the kickoff into the end zone for a single point.
Sudbury closed out the scoring with a one-yard TD run from Riley Clarke, with Quintana adding the PAT and another rouge (again on a kickoff), making the final score 24-1 in favour of the homeside.
No such drama in play in the second half of the twin-bill as the U18 Spartans bullied their way to a 39-0 half-time lead, blanking the Wolverines 60-0.
Reaching the end zone for Sudbury were Quin Mazzuchin (2), Dylan Nelson, Maxim Laberge, Braedan Beggs, Steven Sola, Ian MacDonald and Cole Preston. Beggs also chipped in with eight converts, a field goal and a single.
