A small but mighty local contingent represented the Sudbury region at a recent SWKKF (Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation) tournament in Simcoe.

The event, held in honour of Hanshi Masaru Shintani, founder of SWKKF, attracted some 165 competitors from all parts of Canada - including a trio that made the trip from the Hanmer Wado Kai Karate Club.

Alexie Pilon earned a gold medal in kumite (sparring) while teammate Gabrielle Pilon was awarded a both a silver medal in kumite and a bronze medal in kata.

Sensei Richard Pilon was also in on the action, walking away with a bronze medal in kumite.
