The GSBA (Greater Sudbury Basketball Association) U14 Storm Boys (coach Nelson) added a little more hardware to the trophy-case recently, walking off with the championship banner at the InterCity Saints Tournament in Brampton.
The Sudbury lads unplugged the Peterborough Power 55-32 in their opening encounter and then ran over Factory Basketball from Paris (ON), just outside of Brantford, 77-28.
A quirky schedule to close out the event saw the Storm improve to 3-0 thanks to a 51-42 triumph over Rumi Basketball (Oshawa/Whitby), but then needed to beat them a second time as the two met in the final.
The Storm were up to the challenge, bolting to an early 25-4 lead, withstanding the inevitable rally from their opponents and besting Rumi for a second time, 51-41.
With a commitment to defense and hard work leading the way, coaches Nelson Celtus and Freeman Kamuntu remain pleased with the progress their young team is showing.
Members of the GSBA U14 Storm (coach Nelson) team include Al-amin Adeoti, Desmond Barhydt, Tim Bourget, Zayden Contois, Landen Del Mastro, Hudson Dennison, Kion Gepilano, Isaac Gouled, Isaiah Kamuntu, Carter Larochelle, Ohm Patel and Joshua Sellen.
The lads have one final tournament remaining as the OBA playdowns take place in early May in Ottawa.
