Personal best scores at provincial championships are simply the best - and if that causes local figure skaters to break out in song a la Tina Turner, well, so be it.

Raising the bar on their previous standards allowed a handful of the Sudbury contingent competing at the 2025 Skate Ontario Provincial Championships in Stratford to rise among their peers, with a trio returning home with medals.

With a score of 30.29, Sudbury Skating Club (SSC) representative Angela Tripodi just barely missing taking gold, edging out by the slimmest of margins by Siqi Kong (Streetsville Meadowvale FSC - 30.35) in the Pre-Juvenile Women U13 free skate.

Still finding time to mix in some skating while attending Laurentian University, SSC teammate Mikayla Fabbro also recorded a new PB in finishing first in Gold Women, her score of 54.00 putting the northern skater well ahead of Alica Buzynska from the Canadian Ice Academy in Mississauga (49.81).

Fabbro added a bronze medal to her collection thanks to her score of 48.67 in the Gold Women Artistic as Jordyn Lehman (Whitby FSC - 53.73) and Regan French (Skate Muskoka - Bracebridge - 53.72).

Rounding out the local hardware recipients was Nathan Cameron of the Nickel Blades Skating Club, earning just under one point more than Shea Lebrun from the Niagara Falls Skating Academy (31.51 vs 30.52) and scooping up bronze in the Star 8 Men's event.

Less than 2/10th of a point was all that stood between SSC veteran Eva Baronette and a medal in the Juvenile U14 division. Her new PB of 31.46 left her sitting in fourth place, just back of Kennedy Anderson (Barrie SC) at 31.67 points.

Baronette also placed fifth in Star 9 U14 competition, the same placement that Nathan Cameron enjoyed in the Star 7 Men O12 grouping. The Sudbury seven who qualified and competed at the 2025 Provincials also included Alexia Tackaberry (SSC), Mackenzie Roy (SSC) and Sasha Gilchrist (Nickel Blades).
