Fronts take game one with ease
2025-03-29

The Sudbury Wolves may have had upset on their minds but the Kingston Frontenacs were having none of it.

The third place team in the Eastern Conference of the OHL scored twice in the opening ten minutes of play and limiting the visiting 6th place Wolves to just ten shots on net through the opening two periods of play, drawing first blood in their best of seven quarter-final affair with a solid 4-1 win.

Cedrick Guindon and Vann Williamson gave Kingston a 2-0 lead by the halfway mark of period one, Ethan Miedema netted the only goal of the middle frame to increase the lead to 3-0 and Guindon netted his second of the game into an empty net to offset an earlier strike by Chase Coughlan as the Fronts looked far and away the better team.

Kingston outshot Sudbury 41-20, making life easy for netminder Charlie Schenkel, who picked up the win while Nate Krawchuk was saddled with the loss.

Attempts to assert themselves physically may have backfired on the Sudbury side when Nathan Villeneuve was assessed an instigating minor and misconduct less than five minutes into game one as the visitors lost a key contributor for the ensuing 17 minutes of play.

Game two takes place Sunday in Kingston before the teams make their way to northern Ontario for games three and four on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
