Sudbury ringette slides in at third in Sault Ste Marie
2025-03-20

There was a definite northern Ontario flavour to the Ringette Ontario U14 A Tier 1 Championships in Sault Ste Marie a week ago. Unfortunately, this time around, the Sudbury crew found themselves looking up at Timmins and the Soo when all was said and done.

Ranked at or near the top of this division all year, Sudbury started provincials slowly, playing to a 3-3 draw versus the Ottawa Ice and then suffering a 2-0 whitewashing from the Timmins Tornadoes to end day one of the event.

A 6-2 win over the Etobicoke Stingers helped build some confidence as Zoe Charbonneau, Taylor Wragg and Sara Levasseur showed the way with two goals each. A 3-2 win later that day over West Ottawa ensured the North Stars a playoff berth as Sudbury overcome a 2-0 first period deficit, scoring twice in the final two minutes including the game-winner from Quinn Armstrong.

Quarter-final action was equally as tight though this time around, the locals reversed the script, riding a pair of first period tallies from Addison Resmer to a 2-1 win over Dorchester. Back up against the Tornadoes, the North Stars still could not solve Timmins goaltender Hailey Johnson, eliminated from gold medal contention thanks to a 3-0 setback.

With the night to sleep on what was still at stake, the U14A squad scored four times in the opening period (Taylor Wragg-2; Sara Levasseur; Addison Resmer), doubling the Nepean Ravens to earn bronze at the all-Ontario tournament.

Avery Bigras, Chloe Savignac, Kara Kirkey, Brielle Blanchette, Alexie Wissell, Gabrielle Philippe, Kylie Savoie, Isabelle Laplante, Grace Michaud and Isabelle Michaud round out the roster for the North Stars.
