The Sudbury U17 Jam Girls were due to get the better of the Barrie Royals.

They just picked a really good time to do it.

Taking part in a tournament in Barrie late last month, the Jam posted a 2-1 record in pool play, their only loss coming at the hands of the Royals.

That 55-37 setback came only after the Sudbury squad had safely booked their spot in the semis, recording victories over both the Upper Valley River Dogs (Upper Ottawa Valley - 44-28) and the Toronto Hoopstar (57-46).

Facing the Dogs in a playoff rematch, the northern crew were even more dominant the second time around, advancing to the finals following a 54-25 win, prepared to face a Barrie Royals team that had already beaten them twice.

In a dramatic and closely-contested encounter, the Jam topped the Royals 46-40, earning gold in the process.

The 2024-2025 edition of the Sudbury U17 Jam girls team includes: Tiana Thai, Sarah Nadjiwon, Kamryn Newell, Gia Rocca, Kaylee Prevost-Patterson, Paige Dawson, Jacqueline Tissot, Maggie Tripodi, Mckenna Mende, Sophie Montgomery, Ryleigh Gainer and Lylah Jebreen.

The coaching staff has John Dawson at the helm, with assistant coaches Frank Rocca and Stephen Montgomery lending a helping hand.
