A very deep 16U talent pool secures another set of medals for the Chill
2025-03-07

There is no lack of depth of talent with the Northern Chill Volleyball Club 16U girls pool, it seems.

On the same weekend that the Chill 16U Black Cyclones were reaching the podium for a second time this year in OVA tournament play, the Chill 16U Blue Cyclones joined the party as well.

Despite finishing second in pool play in the morning, the Sudbury squad battled their way back to a bronze medal finish in Maple as nine teams gathered for Bugarski Cup – Trillium White C tournament play late last month.

After sweeping aside the Orillia Suns Fire in their first encounter of the day (25-16, 26-24), the Chill went toe to toe with the second seeded Niagara Athletics Aces, losing a hard fought 22-25, 26-28 affair.

Battling the second place team in Pool C in quarter-final action, the Black Cyclones gave themselves a shot at a medal, going the distance in defeating the Toronto Thunderbolts Smash, 25-16, 15-25, 15-8.

Another three-setter in the semi-finals, though this time the northern girls were not quite so fortunate, on the wrong end of a 25-21, 14-25, 10-15 decision with the Scorpions Venom from Cambridge.

Still, there was hardware up for grabs and the local side were not about to be denied, emerging triumphant 25-19, 25-23 in a bronze medal tilt with Phoenix VC of Toronto.

The 2024-2025 edition of the Northern Chill 16U Blue Cyclones features Kaylee Baillargeon, Ella Tourville, Keylee Laurin, Isabelle Bonish, Malin Brunette, Emma Firman, Maggie Brady, Lara Gray, Téah Luoma, Kendra Crew, Maggie Polischuk, Leah Serre, head coach Tammie McLoughlin, assistant coach Jill Schweyer and team manager Michelle Brunette.
