It seems all too fitting.
On a year in which the newly formed Laurentian Voyageurs relay teams accounted for three of the four top ten placements for the local contingent at the 2025 OUA Indoor Track & Field Championships, it was the more symbolic passing of the torch from a very decorated group of graduating seniors that garnered the praise of head coach Darren Jermyn.
"I am incredibly proud of the leadership shown this weekend by our graduating athletes: Keon Wallingford, Travis Routhier, Skyler Savage-Perreault, Naomi Palmer, Sarah Booth and Kristen Mrozewski", stated Jermyn in a university-issued release.
"They have definitely laid the groundwork for our very young and growing team to build upon moving forward."
Not all that long after Wallingford cracked the top ten on an individual basis, posting a time of 8:33.72 in the 3000m (9th place), he would team up with Brandon Radey, T.J. Green and Patrick Leroux to match that result in the relays.
Their time of 8:17.26 in the 4 X 800m event was one of three top ten finishes for Laurentian foursomes, the other two coming courtesy of Kristen Mrozewski / Sarah Booth / Claire Scholl / Abby Lanteigne (4 X 800m - 9:37.78 - 8th) and Skyler Savage-Perreault / Josh Kim / Abdul Abiodun / Tristan Routhier (4 X 200m - 1:35.36 - 10th).
Placing 14th in the 300m dash with a time of 42.06 seconds, freshman Alissa Diavolitsis recorded the third fastest time in L.U. team history, while also jumping aboard on the 4 X 400m (Mrozewski/Booth/Maeva Blake), finishing 11th in a time of 4:14.53.
Jumper Shelley Hladin competed in both the triple jump and the long jump with relatively similar results - 11.07 metres (15th) in TJ; 5.17 metres (17th) in LJ.
Kristen Mrozewski also earned the right to compete in a pair of individual events, crossing the line in 3:01.59 (1000m - 17th) and 1:41.97 (600m - 20th), with Sarah Booth ever so slightly back in back races (3:04.19 - 21st; 1:42.40 - 22nd).
Following are the remaining results for Laurentian athletes at the 2025 provincial championships:
