There must have been something in the Sudbury water that year.
The accomplishments of both the Sudbury U15 AA Lady Wolves and the Sudbury U15 BB Lady Wolves have already been well documented on the pages of SudburySports.com this winter.
Squeezed in between the two, the Sudbury U15 A Lady Wolves are also enjoying a season to remember.
Picking up their second tournament win of the season - to go along with a loss in the finals of the Tournament of Heroes in Whitby in December - the U15 A squad recently captured the DIFD (Do It For Daron) Paint It Purple tournament in Nepean.
A pair of tough contests to open play on Friday only served to steel the resolve of the local girls, who kicked things off on day one with a 2-1 win over the Napanee Crunch (goals by Ryann Morris and Emma Mourre) and a 1-1 tie with the Oshawa Lady Generals (Lauren Bouchard).
Zara Daoust posted the shutout to close out round robin play with a 3-0 win over the Kanata Rangers, with Jenna Cole joining Morris and Mourre on the scoresheet for Sudbury.
With a 12-team field on hand, quarter-final action was required as the Lady Wolves made it back to back 3-0 wins, this one over the Kingston Ice Wolves: shutout from Amélie Gervais; goals from Lauren Bouchard, Jenna Cole, Aleah Restoule.
Their confidence now sky-high for Sunday final four action, the U15 A girls rode a three-goal performance from Ryann Morris to a 4-1 semi-final win over the Nepean Wildcats (Brooklyn Bertrand with the remaining tally) and combined a second shutout for netminder Gervais with a couple of snipes from Lauren Bouchard to put away the Russell Coyotes 4-0 in the final.
Nellie Brunette and Jenna Cole chipped in with one marker apiece as the fourth ranked team in the province, according to My Hockey Rankings, now prepare for a best of three showdown with North Bay with a spot at provincials on the line.
Rounding out the Sudbury roster are Addie Bronicheski, Anika Rhéaume, Chloe Boucher, Julia D'Angelo, Lexi Dubreuil, Makayla Paris, Rowan Frood and Violet Simon.
The team coaching staff is comprised of Jamie Brunette, Dave Simon, Kristen Dubreuil and Geoff Morris, with both Erin Frood (trainer) and Kristin Bouchard (manager) tackling their specific areas of expertise.
The Sudbury - North Bay series kicks off on Thursday February 13th in Coniston with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
