Apparently, the Sudbury U15 BB Lady Wolves still had another gear they could access.
In winning their third tournament of the year, the locals posted a 3-0 record in round robin play at the 45th Sweetheart Tournament in Orangeville.
That said, victories by scores of 3-1 (vs Orangeville Tigers), 3-2 (vs St Catharines Junior Badgers) and 2-1 (vs Caledon Coyotes) did nothing to suggest that gold would be a slam-dunk come Sunday.
With Alexie Miller holding the hot hand - the young sniper would register a hat trick, with Eva Haraschuk drawing assists on two of the goals - the Lady Wolves downed Caledon 4-1 in the morning semi-final.
Evelyn Joly added the remaining tally as Sudbury prepared for a rematch with the Badgers, with everything on the line.
Backstopped by a shutout performance from Abby Ouimet, the Lady Wolves blanked St Catharines 4-0 as Kayleigh Crew, Lauren Bois, Presley Brennan and Alexie Miller all found the back of the net for the winners.
Rounding out the team roster are: Ella Gatien, Maya Croskery, Hailee Losier-Paradis, Brooklyn Mininni, Mila Kidd, Grace Demers, Penelope Ouimet, Quinn Houle, Ava Cloutier, Melody Lavergne and goaltender Sofia Mallozzi, still sidelined with an injury.
Of the 57 U15 BB teams rated in the My Hockey Rankings in Ontario, the Sudbury squad sits seventh, with the Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds showing the way at number one.
