The St Charles College Cardinals and Horizon Aigles girls hockey teams might as well become familiar.

With the first place Lo-Ellen Park Knights (7-1-1) and the fourth place Bishop Carter Gators (1-9-0) bookending the SDSSAA Division I standings, St Charles and Horizon find themselves sandwiched in between, separated by just a single point with a likely first round playoff matchup in the offing.

The Cards made it four straight wins last week at the Carmichael Arena as a second period goal by Karlie Shea stood as the game-winner, with Carrington Parisé adding an empty-netter and Keanna Navarro making 15 saves, leading SCC to a 2-0 win over the Aigles.

Sitting with a record of 1-4-1 prior to their recent surge, the St Charles crew continue to tackle one opponent at a time as they look to climb the standings.

"I think we have to play a little bit more defensively when we are playing against Horizon," noted 15 year-old grade 10 talent Karlie Shea. "They have a lot of strong girls and when they work together, they can be really good."

Also a member of the Sudbury U18 BB Lady Wolves, Shea acknowledged that having near-daily access to the Hockey Canada sport specific program that is offered at St Charles certainly helps as the season progresses.

"You get a lot more skating out of it and you get to practice your skills with other people that are around the same level as you, so I think that benefits you," said Shea.

The Cardinals will face Lo-Ellen later today (Monday January 13th), with Bishop Carter and Horizon meeting Tuesay afternoon in Hanmer.

Division II action last week saw the second place St Benedict Bears (6-3-0) blank the Marymount Regals (2-6-0) 4-0 behind a pair of two goal efforts, with Kendra Cole and Mya Ricci supplying the offense.

The Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes (3-3-1) and Confederation Chargers (5-3-1) played to a 2-2 draw as tallies from CND snipers Hannah Sullivan and Alexis Schewchuk were offset by strikes from Makayla Dunn and Rylee Morris.
