Sudbury NOJHLers continue to pile up the wins, though the games are no longer close

Single goal victories were not terribly unusual as the Greater Sudbury Cubs found their footing in the first two months of the 2024-2025 NOJHL campaign.

In fact, ten of the team's first 18 triumphs through to November 17th came by the smallest margin possible.

Since then, the Cubs have been on a tear.

Extending their current win streak to ten games with relatively lopsided results over both the Iroquois Storm (6-2) and the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners (9-1) last week, the local crew have enjoyed a cushion of more than six goals, on average, over opponents, in their past six outings.

The home matchup on Thursday would see Sudbury build up a 3-0 lead through two periods of play over the Storm courtesy of a pair of goals from Lucas Signoretti and a strike from Samuel Assinewai.

A penalty filled third period of play featured three more for the homeside (Mason Chitaroni plus two from Assinewai) while Iroquois Falls countered with markers from Jack Jarvis and Alexandre St Pierre.

Stephen Toltl racked up the win between the pipes thanks to a 27-save effort.

Travelling to Kirkland Lake the next evening, the Cubs were more than happy to tap into their depth on the attack as Jacob Lamoureux (2), Lucas Signoretti (2), Cameron Shanks, Daks Klinkhammer, Ben Harris, Ryan Rubic and Lucas Antonioni all managed to find the back of the net.

Simon McCandless did likewise for the Gold Miners but that was the only puck to elude Noah Beaulne as Sudbury opted to provide netminder Matthew Vahramian an opportunity elsewhere, trading the 18 year-old Rochester native to the St Thomas Stars (GOJHL) over the weekend.

The Cubs will put two of their three remaining 2024 battles into the books later this week, welcoming the French River Rapids to Sudbury on Thursday and then making the trek to Massey on Friday to face the Elliot Lake Vikings.
