The start and finish of the day provided a push for the Northern Chill 14U TLS Blizzard Boys at the recent Provincial Cup tournament in Thornhill, but everything in between was pretty much clear sailing for the lads who claimed gold at their first OVA (Ontario Volleyball Association) event of the year.
Facing Pakmen Gold from Mississauga in their morning pool game, the Blizzards went the distance, outlasting their GTA opponents 25-20, 23-25, 15-13 before hitting their stride in game two with a 25-12, 25-13 sweep of the Leaside Lemurs.
The early playoff rounds were not a whole lot more stressful as the Sudbury lads downed the Peterborough Thunder 25-6, 25-11 in quarter-final action and advanced to the gold medal affair by extending their set win streak to seven with a 25-9, 25-18 triumph over the Barrie Elites Avengers.
Thankfully, the 14U Chill had to battle their way to the very summit as the final with REACH Elite from Markham went the full three sets, the northerners emerging victorious 25-14, 22-25, 17-15.
The 2024-2025 edition of the Northern Chill 14U TSL Blizzard Boys squad is, as follows: Henry Case, Reid Cayer, Mateo (Federico) Dudet, Selim Ibrahim, Mattéo Lachapelle, Ajay Martin, Bentley Norman, Jace Seguin, Skyler Trottier, Caleb Zakamarka and Cameron Desrochers.
