Simply beating most every team that came the way of the Greater Sudbury Cubs was fine - but not even allowing opponents to score?
That's just mean.
All kidding aside, a stretch of hockey that finds the local NOJHL crew as winners in 20 of their past 21 games, including back to back shutouts this past week over both the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners (8-0) and Powassan Voodoos (5-0) has all those involved with the Cubs feeling pretty good these days.
The Sudbury lads extended their current win streak to five games Thursday night at home as reigning league scoring champion Lucas Signoretti registered a point on each of the first five goals of the game (2G-3A) in the Cubs 8-0 win over Kirkland Lake.
Daks Klinkhammer and Samuel Assinewai each added a pair of markers while Spencer Horgan and Mason Walker capped things off as Matthew Vahramian made 16 saves in recording the first shutout of his NOJHL career.
The Cubs kept right on rolling Saturday night in Powassan, with Signoretti bumping his season stats to 22 goals and 20 assists (in 24 games) thanks to a four-point evening (2G+2A) versus the Voodoos.
Goals by Nolan Newton, Samuel Assinewai and Spencer Horgan completed the attack in a chippy affair, particularly in period two, with more than 50 minutes in penalties doled out in the contest.
All of those extra curriculars might have taken some of the spotlight off newly-acquired puckstopper Stephen Toltl who turned aside 24 shots in remaining flawless all of one game into time with the Cubs.
These same two teams meet again Thursday in Sudbury with coach Darryl Moxam and company making the short trek to Espanola Saturday night for a battle with the Paper Kings.
