Overchill boys start season with a bang
2024-11-23

It’s only week two of OVA tournament play and already there is some hardware heading north.

The Northern Chill 18U Overchill boys split two of their first three matches at the eight-team Provincial Cup - Trillim C event in Woodbridge last weekend, trading blows evenly with both the Venom Carnage from Richmond Hill (25-27, 25-18) and the Barrie Elites Avalanche (25-22, 23-25).

Still, a sweep of the LVC (London Volleyball Club) Fire Detonate (27-25, 25-20) and a favourable point differential vaulted the Sudbury crew into first place in Pool "B", earning a favourable cross-over match and making quick work of the Markham Revolution in quarter-final play (25-18, 25-21).

The northern reps avoided the upset in their semi-final rematch with the Detonate, the Overchill emerging triumphant 25-21, 25-19.

Facing the #1 ranked Leaside Lobsters in the final, a team that had yet to drop even a single set, the locals struggled out of the gate, beaten 25-13 in the first set but forcing a third set thanks to a 26-24 thriller.

The ultimate showdown remained equally close but in the end, the Overchill settled for silver, on the wrong side of a 15-11 scoreboard.

The 2024-2025 Northern Chill U18 Overchill squad brings together the collective talents of Mackenzie Alisappi, Logyn Bernard, Nicolas Dalcourt, Dax Lamoureux, Davis MacKinnon, Owen Perron, Jordan Schweyer, Greyson Seifert, Ethan Wheatley and Kalev Timusk.
