Laurentian rallies to defeat SDSSAA flag football all-stars
2024-11-17

There is merit to the debate about whether the SDSSAA Flag Football All-Star Game versus the Laurentian Voyageurs is more year-end celebration or recruitment opportunity.

Either way, it turned out to be a very entertaining evening for all those involved as high-schoolers showcased their skills not only in the individual challenge components, but also in staying close to their post-secondary counterparts, losing 15-7 to Laurentian.

Kynlee Cresswell (Bishop Carter) actually opened the scoring in the contest, sprinting down the far sideline to get the SDSSAA reps on the board, with Kaylee Vaillancourt (Lasalle) making good on the convert.

Champlain product Kelly Clark pulled L.U. to within one, on the receiving end of a touchdown pass later in the half.

Pressing to take the lead, the Voyageurs were forced to settle for a Sydney Coe (Lockerby) field goal as their defense settle in nicely, holding the all-stars to just their single major.

Adding a little salt to the wound, Laurentian added another score on the final play of the game as Maija Potvin (Lo-Ellen) crossed the goal line to conclude the evening.

Half-time festivities would see Kayiesha Thomas (Marymount - longest throw), Lucy Brouse (Lasalle - longest punt), Barbara Ceccon (Lo-Ellen - longest field goal), Olivia Lascelle (Lo-Ellen - defensive flag grab) and Hannah Adler (College Notre-Dame - fastest sprint) recognized for their talents.

Rounding out the SDSSAA all-star lineup were: Lasalle - Angel Allonce; Ocean Avery; Isabelle Roy; Sudbury Secondary - Grace Beange; Bishop Carter - Jillian Landry; Lively - Lileigh Dormer; Champlain - Gabrielle Foreshew; Katrine Fortier; St Benedict - Sienna Laurent; Neva Spadafora; Marymount - Mya Massimiliano; St Charles - Ava Massimiliano; Confederation - Berkley Pitura; Horizon - Tessa Ranger; Macdonald-Cartier - Arianna Tonkovic; Lo-Ellen - Maddie Veevers.

The Voyageurs were represented by Addison Elliott, Adasyn Radey, Cayleigh Brulé, Chloé Rinaldi, Hunter Brear, Mya Farmer, Jade Marriott, Brooke Campeau, Claire McInroy, Katie Miglioranza, Peyton Brear and Zoe Rienguette.
