Senior football semi-finals set for Friday
2024-10-21

The Confederation Chargers and Lo-Ellen Park Knights will enter the SDSSAA Senior Boys Football playoffs as prohibitive favourites to meet in the final.

The St Benedict Bears and Lasalle Lancers will be meeting them there, hoping to pull of the semi-final upset.

And for the first time in quite some time, the Lively Hawks are on the outside, looking in.

All of the above as a result of the final regular season triple-header of the fall, one which concluded with a 24-7 St Benedict victory over Lively as Noah Conde, Dylan Nelson and Phoenix Marks all reached the end zone for the winners.

Mateo Bedoya made good on three converts and a field goal while Kaiden Broomhead countered with a major for the Hawks, with Koen Palmquist adding the point after.

The Lo-Ellen kicked off the Friday festivities with a 49-0 romp over Lasalle as Quin Mazzuchin hauled in touchdown passes of 15, 74 and 34 yards from quarterback Noah Parsons to give the three-time champs some momentum heading into the playoffs.

Adam Scott (70 yard punt return), Jonah Gibson (5 yard pass from Parsons) and Jack Centis (46 yard pass from Steven Sola) added the remaining majors with Luca Cucullo amassing seven points on six PATs and a single.

The Confederation Chargers looked at least as impressive in routing the St Charles College Cardinals 58-12 as Braeden Beggs and King David Igiehon recorded three TDs each.

Adding one apiece were Cameron Quesnel and Evan Doyle, with Beggs going 8/8 in the point after department along with two singles.

Semi-final action on Friday sees Lasalle and Confederation kicking off at 3:00 p.m. with Lo-Ellen and St Benedict going toe to toe (or helmet to helmet) at 6:00 p.m.
