The GSSC (Greater Sudbury Soccer Club) Impact U16 Boys picked up four key points at home last weekend as they continue to battle their way in what is a closely contested division of the TOSL (Toronto Soccer League) this summer.

The locals improved to 5-3-3 thanks to a scoreless draw on Saturday versus Canadian FC followed by a 3-2 win the next afternoon and now find themselves just one point back of Thornhill FC, sitting third in the seven team loop.

Some key saves by keeper Juan Calderon preserved the shutout in game one as the Impact displayed a lock-down effort defensively. The work of midfielders Mishal Olanrewaju and Masimo Toffoli and the back-line duo of Alfarouq Alzawi and Moyo Olusola-Kuteyi was paramount in achieving the draw.

Things opened up substantially in game two as Lukas Morin opened the Sudbury scoring, drilling home a free kick while Joshua Rioux netted a pair of strikes, both from beyond the 25-yard line to lead the Impact to victory in a highly physical affair.

Colton Cooke and Mauro Cusinato also contributed nicely to the win with very solid efforts on the pitch.

The U16 Impact boys will close out regular season play with four of their final five games on the road, starting with a visit to face both the Etobicoke Youth SC Energy and Toronto CB Black Wolves on the weekend of September 7th and 8th.

The final home game of the summer takes place on (Saturday) Septemebr 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the James Jerome Sports Complex as FC Emery makes the journey north, the home and home set wrapping up one week later in Concord Thornhill.
