If only the Sudbury U13 Rockhounds had been able to carry a goal or two over from their wins into their encounters with the Windsor Warlocks at the Ray Broadworth Memorial Tournament last weekend in Gloucester.
The Rockhounds blew out both the London Blue Devils (12-1) and the Akwesasne Storm (10-0) but came up a little short on two occasions when facing the Warlocks, losing 6-5 in their opening pool game and 3-2 in the championship final.
Jonah Ashcroft netted the hat trick in the game one setback for Sudbury, with Kaesen Adair and Noah Therrien also hitting paydirt as the locals matched up well with a Windsor squad ranked one spot below them in OLA (Ontario Lacrosse Association) seedings.
Saturday was a day to unleash the full offensive arsenal of the U13 Rockhounds, first against London (Jarrett Marshall-2, Jonah Ashcroft-2, Kaesen Adair, Noah Therrien, Logan Peltier, Gareth Mead, Cohen Wabano, Parker Roy, Matheos Carriere and Oliver Brunetti) and again versus Akwesasne (Gareth Mead-3, Oliver Brunetti-2, Clark Montgomery-2, Noah Therrin, Matthew Christakos and Logan Peltier).
A rematch with Windsor went right down to the wire as the Rockhounds netted the only goals of period one (Bennett Bouchard) and period two (Kaesen Adair), but could not hold off a hard-charging Warlocks crew which tied things up with just over four minutes to play before netting the winner (Michael Lemieux) just over one minute later.
"In the last tournament of the season, the boys remained focused on our goal of improving every single time we're on the floor and this weekend capped off a season where we played Sunday lacrosse in every one of the four tournaments we played in," noted head coach Brendan Adair.
"From players with years of lacrosse under their belts (Gareth Mead, Kaesen Adair and goaltender Wyatt Williams) through to some newer players playing rep for the first time (Matheos Carriere and Parker Roy) and everyone in between, all had a positive impact in every single game this season," added coach Adair.
"Their athleticism, willingness to always improve and dedication to playing the game as a team has shone through. The coaching staff is very proud of this group and is looking forward to seeing them put it all together at provincials in August."
Rounding out the Sudbury U13 roster are Cedric Poulin, Karson Ferguson and Dallyn Lalonde, with the latter unavailable for the tournament in Gloucester.
