A Nickel City Aquatic SC recap - with some up to the minute highlights
2024-02-10

As we get into the thick of the long-course swim season, this seemed like as good a time as any to catch up with our friends with the Nickel City Aquatics and chat a bit about the 2023-2024 season to date:

Top Fish Meet - Howard Armstrong Pool - November 5th, 2023
A total of 44 swimmers combined to amass more than 70 medals, individually and through the relay ranks, with Sophie Stott (2013) claiming gold in each and every one of her four events: 100m freestyle; 100m backstroke; 50m butterfly; 100m individual medley.

North York Aquatic Club (NYAC) Cup - November 10th - 12th, 2023
With a team of eight NCA swimmers on hand, it was club veteran Shane Clapham who would grab the spotlight at this highly competitive meet, garnering a fourth place finish in the 100m breaststroke.

Dominique Bouchard Invitational - North Bay - November 18th - 19th, 2023
Back to Northern Ontario as the NCA 11-12 boys claim the team High Point Trophy, with Noah McGregor (2010) also walking off with six gold medals and a silver as the local club enters 33 athletes who recorded 48 top three placements.

Murray Drudge (Youth Cup) Invitational - TPASC - December 1st - 3rd, 2023
The bar is raised again as 13 Sudburians make their way to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre as part of the NCA contingent, with top five finishes produced by the likes of Shane Clapham, Noah McGregor, James Mongeon, Rylee McCuee and Sophie Stott.

NCA Christmas Meet- Gatchell Pool - December 20th, 2023
A little more of a mix of fun and racing as a whopping 71 swimmers representing the NCA gather for some holiday festivities as the Masters group take part in the single day event that featured pizza and cake after the competition was done.

Richmond Hill Aquatic Club (RHAC) Launch into Long Course - January 12th - 14th, 2024
Time to hit the road in mid-January as a bronze medal performance in the 100m butterfly highlights the Nickel City showing at one of the earliest long-course competitions of the year.

More recently, NCA has qualified a pair of senior swimmers for some top-end provincial events as Shane Clapham hit the standard in the 100m breaststroke, earning an entry to the 2024 Winter Ontario Swimming Championships while James Mongeon did likewise for the Winter Ontario Youth Junior Championships, nailing the required time in no less than four events (100m/200m butterfly; 100m/200m backstroke).
