With a whole slew of upcoming games against the first place Soo Jr Greyhounds set for January and February of 2024, the Nickel City U15 AAA Sons socked away four key points in their final weekend of play before Christmas.
The Sons bounced the Timmins Majors 8-2 before blanking the same opponent 3-0 in a pair of encounters contested in Timmins, Nickel City bumping their season mark to 9-5-0, two points back of the North Bay Trappers (10-7-0) and eight behind the front-running Hounds (13-2-0).
The Sons scored three times late in the opening frame and then piled on from there on Saturday as Leighton Pelletier showed the way with a hat-trick while Gillis O'Daiskey and Landen Lake-Rego added two goals apiece.
Robert Landry closed off the scoring for the visitors with Blake Morin and Philippe Lafontaine giving the home crowd a little something to cheer about.
No such luck on Sunday morning as Sons' goaltender Tyson McMahon registered the shutout and picked up the win between the pipes thanks to tallies from Gillis O'Daiskey, Landen Lake-Rego and Janssen Fransen.
Nickel City is back in action for a huge three game set with the Sault on January 6th and 7th, squeezing in a little tournament play before resuming NOHL league play in early February, hosting Timmins for a pair of clashes.
